Ugggggggh. This week I got sick again. AGAIN! I’ve written about this before here, but I’ve been sick several times per month since I got an epic case of covid in December. I’m in this endless cycle of getting a cold then, two weeks later, getting a stomach bug, and repeat. It’s madness. Madness, I tell you! I’m seriously considering if I’ve been hexed or cursed somehow. I haven’t dabbled in any dark arts, to my knowledge, but perhaps I’ve made an enemy, unbeknownst to me? Yesterday, in classic New England style, we got some random summer weather, so the windows have been open for over 24 hours, which is awesome. BEGONE DEVIL VIRUSES.
In other news, I’m back in the State of Grace series world and I. Love. It. Here. The first three books (Run Riot, Silver Bullet, and Wild Game) are a re-read for me and I’m surprised that I remember so much. One of my favorite elements of this story is the unique, complex magic system. In this second read through, since I’m familiar with the plot already, I’m able to more thoroughly absorb the details. I did, however, forget that this is a very slow burn, which isn’t bad at all, just different from the pacing in the Vicious Lost Boys series. It’s so fun to be able to read two series back to back that I started a while back, but waited patiently (not so patiently) to complete before jumping back in. In fact, for the State of Grace series, I actually had the forethought to wait for the author to write two full books! She only had three out at the time when I started the series. Now I know why some readers wait until the series is complete before they read it.
Now, I was just about to start telling you about another series that I thought was completed, but then I did a little google search and apparently it’s not? Okay, here’s what I mean. I saw Kaven Hirning’s TikTok where she posted that she read the second book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series and said it was the last one. Well, it’s sort of true and sort of not. Carissa explained on Twitter that the Crowns of Nyaxia series is actually going to be a six book series consisting of three duologies. So, now that the second book is out, it’s safe to say that, at least, the first duology is complete: The Serpent and the Wings of Night and The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, which is the Nightborn Duet that follows that House of Night. All of that to say, the second one is on its way to meeeeeeeee.
Depending on how long it takes to finish what I’m currently reading, I might take a quick, one book fantasy break and read a contemporary stand alone before diving in to the Nightborn Duet. We’ll see how I’m feeling. I also have a hunch that the SoG series might do some emotional damage. Don’t ask me how I know, but if you read a lot, you’ll get what I mean. So yeah, if that happens, I’ll definitely need a palette cleanser.
Anyway, this might be it for a little while because next week I’m taking the whole week off from work, so I will be away from my computer. I might post, I might not. We’ll see. If I do take the week off, gird your loins for me to come in HOT with my SoG post and, hopefully, more. Maybe Friday’s post should always be a ramble post. Hmm. Maybe I’ll become a real blogger with a real schedule and everything. LOL. Never. I’m not that organized. Have a good weekend all!
