It’s Wednesday My Dudes

Gonna be a rambler today. On Monday I wrote about finishing the “last” (let’s be honest…I read another one afterward…) contemporary romance before I switch gears back into the fantasy world. I went back to my book tracker and realized that I’ve been consistently reading contemporary since mid-February. That’s a long time for me to stick with one genre. Usually I swap between genres and formats every next book or series. But this time, I’ve been on my Kindle, reading contemporary. It’s time to get back into physical books and fantasy.

Yesterday I picked Queen of Myth and Monsters back up. I started this one on Feb 14th after tearing through King of Battle and Blood (the first in this series…or maybe it’s a duet?). I’m not loving it as much as I enjoyed King of Battle and Blood. The first one had a lot of my favorite tropes: princess won over by a dark, morally grey hero, a “roadtrip”, enemies to lovers, and a strong female character coming into power. We traveled through different worlds and burning questions were answered.

In the first 100+ pages of the second book, we are stuck – for the most part – in one place. There isn’t as much action and the female character seems a bit more egotistical than fierce. There are still many unanswered questions and we can’t trust anyone. Her relationship with the MMC is tentative at best. From my experience, though, I’ve noticed that some authors (Sarah J Maas does this a lot) will have the reader endure a long period of down time before the book switches to epic action, like a big war or something, that drives the story right up until the end. Usually I end up loving the book, so I’m going to trust the process and stick with it.

In other news, I’ve been sick. Again. I’ve been sick 1-2 times per month since November, which is unusual for me and sucks big time. Also, I hurt my hip doing absolutely nothing except existing, so every time I get up from sitting too long, I look like a geriatric. I’m doing great, guys.

Anyway, that’s probably it for today. I’ve been working on a huge post for Friday that I’m really excited to publish. Stay tuned for that. Lol, I love that I write these posts as if I have a huge readership that actually cares.
